Walyarra successfully delivered gabion basket installation works along the Great Northern Highway for Main Roads Western Australia, as part of ongoing flood recovery and erosion protection works in the Kimberley region. The project was completed in collaboration with Winun Ngari Aboriginal Corporation, supporting Indigenous participation in critical regional infrastructure delivery.
The scope included the placement and securing of rock-filled gabion baskets to stabilise road embankments and protect highway assets against erosion and future flood damage. Leveraging its expanding fleet, Walyarra deployed three excavators and a CAT 950 wheel loader, enabling efficient self-performance of the works in a remote and challenging environment.
Through the use of experienced operators, strong safety systems, and close collaboration with key stakeholders, Walyarra delivered the project on schedule and to specification. This project highlights Walyarra’s capability in Kimberley flood recovery works, highway stabilisation, and complex civil construction, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted Indigenous-owned civil contractor in regional Western Australia.
